Access to Biomedical Electronic Scientific Information (ABESI) is part of the Research Core of the Program: Puerto Rico Alliance for the Advancement of Biomedical Research Excellence (PR-AABRE).
Its mission is to facilitate and improve timely access to scientific information needed by the Investigators' community in their research work, and by doing so, to enhance their productivity and competitiveness.
How ABESI can accomplish its mission?
ABESI has a set of goals summarized in the Specific Aims, which consist of facilitating and improving the existing mechanisms for obtaining information.
Such mechanisms include the Libraries and their holdings, as well as access to assorted Databases and a network of Library Loans.
ABESI's activities span over all PR-AABRE Institutions and targets all affiliated biomedical researchers and students. The main task required in achieving its goals is to act as a liaison between the libraries, the investigators and the institutions making known to each other their needs, and suggest adequate solutions to smooth and streamline the required operations.
ABESI achievements can be seen here.
Why ABESI was created in the first place ?
ABESI creation was recommended by several External Advisory Committees (EAC), during the evaluation process of Programs and Projects in Puerto Rico funded by the NIH in years prior to 2001 (see details in Background).
