Environmental Mutagen Society Annual Meeting |
Written by Humberto Ortiz Zuazaga
The Environmental Mutagen Society (EMS) is currently the primary intellectual forum for researchers interested in the development and application of transgenic technology of toxicological studies and for the development of methods for studying mutations and the mechanisms of mutation and DNA repair in model cellular systems as well as humans. This year the EMS will have its annual meeting in Puerto Rico. This meeting provides an important setting for the presentation of data emerging from the Human Genome Project, especially mutation spectra, mutational mechanisms, and new techniques for detection of mutation and genomic instability in humans. The meeting will be held at the Wyndham Rio Mar Resort on October 18-22, 2008. The web site for the meeting is at www.ems-us.org/AM2008/index.asp |

2nd Biennial National IDeA Symposium of Biomedical Research Excellence (NISBRE) http://www.mpi-evv.com/2008idea/fptemplate/researchpath/default.htm Wednesday August 6 to Friday August 8, 2008 Wardman Park Marriott Hotel Washington, D.C. There will be scientific sessions and poster presentations highlighting areas of research supported by IDeA’s Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) and Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE), as well as technical and administrative sessions and workshops. This meeting is open to all interested parties. We encourage attendance by principal investigators, program coordinators, investigators, staff, and students, from IDeA research institutes and institutions, and from partner primarily undergraduate institutions—to showcase accomplishments, exchange ideas, foster collaborations, encourage educational opportunities, and demonstrate the Program’s progress in developing biomedical resources and research capacity in IDeA states. |

On January 16, 2008, the NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) released three funding opportunity announcements on community-based participatory research (CBPR). The Program Announcement (PA) seeks R01 grant applications that propose intervention research on health promotion, disease prevention, and health disparities that communities and researchers jointly conduct. The Program Announcements with special review/receipt (PAR) seek both R01 and R21 applications that propose research on health promotion, disease prevention, and health disparities that is jointly conducted by communities and researchers and targets medically underserved areas (MUAs) and medically underserved populations (MUPs) as defined by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Please reference the below announcements for complete details. |
