Software Environments

The wide variety of software currently present at the Bioinformatics Resource Center, will be maintained, augmented when newer versions are available as well as further enhanced when new capabilities are required by any researcher supported by the PR-AABRE project. Arrangements can be made if specific software currently not supported on any of the BiRC computational platforms, is requested by any PR-AABRE researcher. Please contact us with any request.

Currently, the principal software packages supported, where some training opportunities exist, are:

      • EMBOSS and the wEMBOSS portal
      • ESTAP
      • NAMD & VMD

Other important bioinformatics software such as phylip and blast are also currently available.

In order to access these software, a new user will need to fill out a research allocation form available here.

We actively support the OpenSource approach to bioinformatics software development. The basic justification behind this approach is the ability with OpenSource software to read, modify and redistribute the source code for a piece of software, with the ability to actively participate in the evolution of the software. This gives us th eopportunity to develop new applications using existing pieces, or even "tune" existing application to sustain the specific research needs of PR-AABRE researchers.
